This is Conventual Franciscans’ second presence in the state of Tamil Nadu and that of the ninth in India. “Belvedere Franciscan Ashram” was canonically established on 7 January 2005 and on 2 February 2005, Fr. Joseph Cilia blessed the same for the use of the friars. Belvedere Franciscan Ashram, dedicated to Bl. Mother Teresa of Calcutta is situated at Kottagiri and is in the eparchy of Mananthavady. This Friary, which is to function as, Novitiate House started to function with the arrival of friars and Novices on 25 January 2005. Fr. Sebastian Peandanath was appointed as the first Guardian and the Director to the novices. The Friary is also having the privilege to be the Friary of the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of the Conventual Franciscan Friars in India in the year 1980 – 2005 and the year dedicated to the Eucharist.
