Our First Easter in Arunachal: A Journey of Faith, Culture & Mission
This year marked a grace-filled milestone as we celebrated our first Easter in the mission land of Arunachal Pradesh. Being a new mission, it was a unique experience for us to journey with the people, embracing a new culture, language, and way of life.
Due to the vast area of the mission, which includes nine villages-with the farthest nearly 85 kilometers away-it was not possible for everyone to gather in one place, especially considering the rains and the difficult road conditions. Therefore, the Easter celebrations were organized in two centers.
At Gangte, around 60 faithful from three villages gathered to celebrate Easter with great devotion and joy. Fr. Jithin Thanuparambil, OFM Conv., guided the community throughout the Holy Week, helping them to prayerfully prepare for the Resurrection of the Lord.
At Guchi Village, six villages came together for the Holy Week and Easter celebrations under the guidance of Fr. Delvin Mangalan, OFM Conv. The celebrations were vibrant and deeply meaningful, reflecting the strong faith of the people.
What made this Easter especially touching was the heartfelt response of the faithful. Many shared that although they had been Christians for many years, they had not had the opportunity to celebrate Holy Week and Easter with a priest. Our presence among them became a source of great joy and spiritual nourishment.
Indeed, this first Easter in our mission has been a powerful reminder that even in remote places, the light of the Risen Christ shines brightly, bringing hope, unity, and renewed faith to all.
