Fifth Extraordinary Provincial Chapter 2026

Friars gather in Karukutty to approve a strategic Four-Year Plan and actions for the future of the Province

 

Karukutty, January 2026: The Province of India successfully gathered for the Fifth Extraordinary Provincial Chapter at Karukutty, Kerala, from January 19 to 21, 2026. Brought together in a spirit of prayer, fraternity, and responsible discernment, the capitulars focused on the life, mission, and future of the Province.


The Chapter officially commenced on Monday, January 19, with a profound spiritual grounding led by Friar John Baptist Palliparambil, OFM Cap, preparing the hearts of the friars for authentic discernment. Following the canonical constitution of the Chapter, the day's sessions gave special attention to ongoing formation, apostolates, and governance. The first day gracefully concluded with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration and Vespers presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Park, Assistant General for FAMC, who accompanied and guided the friars throughout the entire Chapter.


The following day, January 20, was dedicated to mission, administration, and strategic vision. The day began with the Holy Mass led by Rev. Fr. Alphonse Vazhappanady, Vicar Provincial. Key highlights included reports on ad gentes missions, inter-provincial responsibilities, and the presentation of the Four-Year Plan by the Minister Provincial, offering a clear pastoral direction for the coming years.


Entering its decisive phase on Wednesday, January 21, the Chapter opened with a Concelebrated Holy Mass presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Michael Earaly, Minister Provincial. Through group discernment and shared reflection, the capitulars presented motions and successfully approved a concrete Plan of Action, translating their discernment into a unified mission.


The Chapter concluded in a beautiful atmosphere of gratitude and a renewed commitment to Franciscan life and service. The joyous spirit of the gathering continued on January 22 with ministries and ordinations held at Kolbe Ashram, Aluva, marking a moment of abundant grace and hope for the future of the Province.
