Historic Milestones at Sacred Heart Mission Centre, Restaring

The Conventual Franciscan community in Arunachal Pradesh celebrates its first annual retreat, a sanctuary renovation, and the inaugural Parish Council meeting.

From February 27th to March 1st, the Sacred Heart Parish Centre in Restaring successfully conducted its first annual retreat. While the Catholic presence in the area traces back to 1985, this event marked a historic milestone as the first formal retreat ever held within the community. It was a profound season of spiritual nourishment, offering the faithful a vital opportunity to pause, reflect, and renew their commitment to their heritage. The atmosphere was filled with a palpable sense of joy and communal unity, leaving many invigorated for the year ahead.

Alongside this spiritual renewal, a long-awaited dream of the faithful was realized with the complete carpeting of the entire church sanctuary. This project, which had been a priority for the parishioners for quite some time, was made possible through the overwhelming generosity and local support of the community. By coming together to fund and facilitate this improvement, the parish has not only enhanced the beauty of the church but also created a more comfortable and welcoming environment for all who come to pray.

Further strengthening the foundation of the mission, the inaugural Parish Council of Sacred Heart Church was successfully convened this February. During the assembly, Fr. Don Valiyaparambil, the Centre In-charge, addressed the gathered leaders with a clear vision for the future. A key highlight of the meeting was the official election of the new Catechist and other lay leaders who will serve the community in the coming year. The Council meticulously outlined a calendar of programs and engaged in productive discussions regarding the ongoing spiritual and structural development of the parish. The gathering was further honored by the presence of the area's Circle Officer, whose attendance underscored the church's strong relationship with the local administration. Fr. Tijo Vellachalil, the Assistant Parish Priest, and Sr. Shiny Paul, MSJ, were also in attendance, contributing their valuable insights to the day’s successful proceedings.
