ONAM CELEBRATION WITH YOUFRA: A FESTIVAL OF FRATERNITY AND JOY
Friars and Youth Gather at Assisi Shanthi Kendra for Cultural Festivity and Fellowship
Assisi Shanthi Kendra, Karukutty: The Onam celebration at Assisi Shanthi Kendra (ASK), shared by the friars and YOUFRA members, transformed the community into a vibrant space of festivity, fellowship, and Franciscan fraternity. Blending the richness of Kerala’s cultural heritage with the spirit of Franciscan brotherhood, the celebration offered a joyful opportunity for the young people to come together, strengthen their bonds, and celebrate the beauty of community life.
The festivities featured a series of sporting events and friendly tournaments, with teams formed to encourage active participation, teamwork, and healthy competition. The members of M.I. and YOUFRA collaboratively prepared the Pookkalam, a colourful floral arrangement that beautifully reflected the traditional charm and cultural significance of Onam.
Following the Holy Mass, a variety of traditional Onam games and recreational activities brought the community together in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and shared joy. Friars and young people participated wholeheartedly, making the occasion a memorable celebration of culture, communion, and the Franciscan spirit.
More than a cultural festival, Onam at ASK became a meaningful expression of fraternity, where tradition met youthful energy and the joy of being together strengthened the bonds of community.
