OFS – CELEBRATION OF THE TRANSITUS OF ST. FRANCIS

Karukutty Region Gathers for Annual Transitus and Reception of 25 New OFS Members

26 September 2026 | Assisi Shanthi Kendra, Karukutty:On Saturday, 26th September, the Order of Franciscan Seculars (OFS) of the Karukutty Region gathered at Assisi Shanthi Kendra for the annual celebration of the Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi. This year’s gathering was particularly significant, as the Karukutty Region continues to experience renewed growth and expansion through the establishment of new OFS units at ASK, Karukutty, and Kolbe Ashram.

Approximately 250 participants, including OFS members, religious brothers and sisters, and YOUFRA members, came together to commemorate the passing of St. Francis from earthly life into eternal communion with God. The celebration became a powerful witness to the enduring vitality of the Franciscan charism and the unity shared by the different branches of the Franciscan family.

The programme commenced with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Very Rev. Fr. Michael Earaly, Provincial Minister. This was followed by the Transitus service, led by Rev. Fr. James Chooramana, National Spiritual Assistant of the OFS. A particularly grace-filled moment of the gathering was the formal reception of 25 new members into the OFS, conducted by Rev. Fr. Senet Kanjiraparambil, Regional Spiritual Assistant. Their entry marked a significant step forward in the continued growth and renewal of the Franciscan Secular movement in the region.

The spiritual message of the day was delivered by Rev. Fr. Arun Mangaly, who invited the participants to rediscover the depth of Franciscan spirituality and to embrace the Gospel with renewed commitment, simplicity, and love for all creation.

The celebration continued with cultural programmes presented by various OFS units, showcasing their talents and strengthening the bonds of fellowship. The gathering concluded with a fraternal meal, providing an opportunity for participants to share their joy, renew friendships, and celebrate their common Franciscan vocation.

The event was a memorable expression of faith, fraternity, and the living Franciscan spirit. Special appreciation is extended to Br. Joseph, Minister of the Karukutty Region OFS, and all the committee members whose dedicated efforts and collaboration contributed to the success of this meaningful celebration.
